Makeup-Shakeup

I've fallen in love with the art of face painting also known as makeup. Beautifying, showcasing or just playing. Makeup does wonders for the eye. There's the type, that can capture a face in such an eloquent fashion, that one forgets the face is strategically covered with make-up. Then there's the makeup that dramatizes a look or one that accentuates a concept, becoming a form of art.

I've dabbled in all forms, from a bride to a cheetah. Below are some of my favorites shot by www.martycrosley.com

Scents of Heaven

As a Muslim one of my most common request as I am making Duah (speaking to god), is " Let (name of person who has passed) smell the scents of heaven"  It's me asking Allah to forgive them for their sins and let them rest in peace while they wait for the day of judgment.

I am very sensitive to scents/smells. I will be the first to detect any foreign scent, and I will sniff around till I figure out what it is, either to admire or destroy it. Being sensitive makes it hard for me to find a Perfume. I have gone hours torturing my nose as I roam the counters and aisle of Nordstrom, Sephora and Barneys. Everything is either headache causing, or cheap smelling. Then, came the light at the end of the tunnel.

I was fortunate enough to be handed complimentary bottle of one of the most exquisite blends my nose has been graced with.  Tom Ford has developed an exclusive line referred to as private blends a scent collection that's been growing since 2007. It was the aroma of his White Suede, that wrapped me up in a smile as it took me on a journey. It's long lasting, yet subtle, sensual and, very satisfying. I use one spray and that's all I need.  The collection has very high oil content, which is why it’s so easy on my nose.

The power of Allah is no match to Tom Ford's scents, but in this life, the White Suede captured what I imagine the scents of heaven to be. Make sure you stop by and smell next time you’re at a counter…

Jeffery Cambell Comes through Again!!

This shoe will transform your fashion status from "Average Anum", to "Fashoinista Fatimah." Of course I want them, like the desert wants the rain... Ah! If only the price point, was a bit more suitable. These suckers will run you anywhere from $280-$360.  Shop wisely sisters, as there are significant price differences. The name of this flirty fun shoe, is representative of the reaction many might have, "Wild Child." Imagine dancing in these shoes, it's like your own personal stage... it's Gaga meets, Pocahontas!

If I get these, post winning the lottery.. I'll post pictures of various way to stunt walk, in these bad boys....Everyone PRAY!

Fashion For the Trendy Muslim

This might be what I was born to do. Yet, I've been overcome by my prescribed role for society. I've been slaving to the economy, for the past 3 years, in turn loosing my focus. I lost my ambition to run in the direction my heart wanted to take me. The fear of obstructing from the prescribed role, kept me re-routed like Tom Tom. Today, I have found time courage and inspiration...

I have always wanted to share my Muslim female friendly clothing tactics. I seem to inspire the women around me in a minimal stance. I'm now sharing with everyone who may be interested on how you can be cute and covered.

Keep in mind, I am not a Hijabi, or Muhajiba or whatever you want to call the women who cover their hair. I don’t think adding a scarf to anything I wear is a difficult task. If anything it completes the iconic, honorable image of a Muslim woman as we know it, representing strength loyalty and faith.

I love questions,  So please ask.....

This outfit was inspired by one of my favorite pieces from my closet. I bought it from http://www.lulus.com/ the semi sheer cowl neck oversized poncho. I have tucked it in to my skirt on the front, let loose in the back. I have on a pair of thick brown sweater tights layered with a net like stocking, to add texture. Steve Madden boots, Forever 21 leatherette skirt, random skinny belt and jewlery from lulus, forever21 and god knows where else.... My earrings however are by a jewelry designer named Clair Fong. She’s awesome!

**Please note that each muslim women has thier own interpretation of modesty so adjust the concept to your needs/limitations. I in no way am defining that!

Living, Working and Playing in New York City

It's ironic for sure, that I am a native Cali girl who strived to work and live in LA, ended up in NYC with the big girls. Mostly being that my name is, NYaLA. It seems to be destiny. I've had this blogger for many years, only to start posting today. I have been pushed, urged and provoked to start blogging about style/beauty/deals/and life.

So here's to the beginning of something beautiful! NYC is turning the corner to warmth and Bryant park is picking up the seasonal remains of the ice skating rink/Celcius Lounge. There is no better day than today. Over looking the park from my office window, the seasons are changing!

Comming Soon... Beauty/fragrance/modesty/fashion/sales/fashion/travel and things to make you happy!!
